Welcome to SpoVNet.

This site gives an overview of SpoVNet (Spontaneous Virtual Networks), a cooperative scientific project in context of the BW-FIT support programme in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Launched in 2006, SpoVNet involves contributions by the Universities of Karlsruhe, Tübingen, Stuttgart and Mannheim.

August 21st 09: The Ariba Group attended this year's ACM SIGCOMM 2009 in Barcelona to present the demo "Reconnecting the Internet with ariba: Self-Organizing Provisioning of End-to-End Connectivity in Heterogeneous Networks". The demonstration covered a scenario in which several heterogeneous protocols and devices were connected in face of network changes and reconfigurations. There was a huge interest in the topic and fruitful discussions. The demo was awarded a Honorable Mention by the committee and therewith made it 2nd best demonstration out of 25. See pictures below.

June 7th 09: The first Software Release of UNISONO is open for download. UNISONO implements the concepts of the CLIO Cross-layer Information service for Overlays, providing simplified access to cross-layer information for services and applications.

January 20th 09: The first Software Release of the Ariba Framework is open for download. Ariba implements the concepts of the SpoVNet Base, empowering service and application development while abstracting from underlay issues.

October 24th 08: The second Beiratsbegehung (project presentation) successfully took place in Stuttgart.

June 13th 08: The First Workshop on Architectures, Services and Applications for the Next Generation Internet will take place on July 17th 2008 in Karlsruhe.

June 3rd 08: The Project members met at Schloss Dagstuhl for their yearly retreat.
